The 6 'MUST HAVE' Bride Prep Shots

So you’ve booked your wedding photographer (us of course!), and the time for the bridal preparation has been made, but you are wondering what exactly this involves? Well, you have come to the right place, as SMC Studios already has over 13 years of experience, so we have photographed a few bridal preparations for our lovely couples!

So your wedding makeup artist has been booked, and perhaps a few light refreshments and bubbly purchased, is there anything else you need? If children will be present, perhaps set up a play area, as the make-up can take some time! And while not necessary, a mannequin to display your dress always makes it stand out, and some decorations always make the photos pop!

Regarding the photographer, we recommend they arrive near the conclusion of your makeup session, as it is not necessary to have hours to obtain these images. So on arrival, your photographer will take a few images of you getting your beautiful makeup done! And while the finishing touches are done by your makeup artist, your photographer can obtain a few images of the small details, like your wedding ring, wedding dress, and flowers. This is also a great time to get some relaxed images of your guests, perhaps your bridesmaids are enjoying some bubbly, or the kids are enjoying themselves in the play area you arranged earlier while you relax getting your makeup done. Wouldn’t that be nice!

Once your makeup is completed, it is time for us to capture some more relaxed images with you and your bridesmaids, this can include relaxing on a couch together, or enjoying a glass of bubbly on a balcony and enjoying the view on your wedding day! Here we are looking for those beautiful relaxed moments, that capture not only the excitement of your wedding day, but the friendship between you that lead to them being your bridesmaids!

After you have enjoyed that delicious bubbly, it is now time to put on that amazing wedding dress! As a photographer, we look to capture those last moments, when the buttons are done up on the back of your dress, by either your mother, mother-in-law, or bridesmaids. We always think this moment can bring out some beautiful tender moments! Now that your beautiful wedding dress is on, we then look to capture some images of you looking lovely with your wedding bouquet and other accessories you may be using such as a wedding bouquet, or family heirloom.

At the completion of this amazing photoshoot by yourself, we bring in your bridesmaids and other guests for some group shots, either in the current location or perhaps a nearby park or beach, depending on where your bridal preparation is taking place!

We are now ready for the final stage of your amazing bridal preparation, and that is the departure. Depending on what you have chosen for your ride, we would look to get a few images of you and your bridal party pulling your best poses next to it! Otherwise, we would just look to capture that moment when you depart for your last ride before you become officially married! From here the photographer would then make their way to the ceremony location for that stage of your beautiful wedding day!

So that would be what we look for in a bridal preparation, and we hope it gives you a bit of an understanding of what to expect! We have also summarized these in the list below so you have a quick reference!

  1. Final touches to make up

  2. Capture memories of those fine, beautiful details like a wedding ring, wedding dress, or wedding bouquet

  3. Relax bridal party images

  4. The buttoning of the wedding dress

  5. Formal bridal party images

  6. Bridal departure images

Still looking for a wedding photographer or videographer (or why not both!), if so we would love to chat!

We look forward to seeing you on your wedding day!
